Ideation

At the outset, the goal was to make a thought-provoking and original first feature film, and Black Swan and Whiplash provided the template for where to start.

Screenwriting

The story was formed by a desire to explore the mystery of Dissociative Identity Disorder, and to show the struggle to make it as a professional MMA fighter. Screenwriting started in September 2016 and continued all the way through Post-Production, as we refined the story to its absolute essence.

Training

Led by Muay Thai World Champion Gregory Choplin, who plays Coach Kanté, Team Huracán embarked on an intensive training camp leading into filming, based out of KO Zone in Little Haiti, Miami.

Team Building

A scrappy group of independent filmmakers came together to bring this story to life, infusing it with la cultura of Miami and the passion of Miami's indie film community.

Pre-Production

Working with a shoe string budget, Team Huracán scouted locations throughout Miami, finalized the shooting scheduled, and cast all spectacular actors in our film.

Production

18 days of Principal Photography were some of the craziest and most fun days of our lives! Absolute insanity. We finished it off with half a day of drone shooting and a day of reshoots.

Post-Production

Post stretched for over a year! The edit, sound design, scoring, color correction, and visual fx, all come together into the film as we know it.

Festivals

Starting with our World Premiere at the Miami Film Festival, we then went to the New York Latino Film Festival, which changed everything for us! NYLFF is where The New York Times & HBO discovered Huracán. Our festival run ended in July 2020 at the prestigious Shanghai International Film Festival.
Huracán is praised in The New York Times as a film they “couldn’t stop watching”

Distribution

As a result of NYLFF and the incredible review in The New York Times, HBO approached us to acquire our film. Now, our official premiere date is 9.11.2020. We are overwhelmed with pride and appreciation to be given the visibility and prestige of HBO... we won.
“After its successful festival run, the film Huracán is set to make landfall. HBO has acquired the rights to Cassius Corrigan and Hyde Park International’s Latinx psychological thriller.”

“It’s a dream come true,” says Corrigan, “HBO is the most prestigious brand in entertainment, and for them to champion Huracán is a testament that we accomplished something truly special.”

The journey continues with international sales, with the goal of bringing Huracán to audiences worldwide in 2021. Thank you for being part of the journey.
